Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico the beginning of a new era! @SylvetteTravels

Mural made by Orlando Soy Yo

Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico in the 80's & 90's this was the place to buy everything!

I remember going to Rio Piedras by car and walking the Paseo de Diego with all the shops full with people buying I was a young girl my mother buying all my school items and other things too.

In 1996 there was a explosion in the store Humberto Vidal 33 people die & 69 injured several buildings collapsed all because of a gas leak.

In the years 2000 Rio Piedras was getting worst closing the stores and crime escalate I have being going like 4 times since 2000 to 2021 I did go by car or Tren Urbano.

Walking Rio Piedras its a adventure LOL

The only SINGER store in Puerto Rico since the 60's

I need to go to Rio Piedras to buy a few parts for my antique sewing machine from the year 1920 so my friend she knows well Rio Piedras she drive me to the shop and then she find a privet parking to place her car to be safe and we start walking the Paseo de Diego.

I was so exited because I wanna to find the Mural from Orlando Soy Yo I'm a big fan of his doodle art this was new mural so I said to my friend lets find this mural. When we start walking that was the first thing I saw I get so happy and took video and pictures for my youtube video about Rio Piedras.

Paseo de Diego, Rio Piedras

This photo represent a sad true about Rio Piedras on the year 2021 graffiti have taken the town all over the place. All do I'm a fan of graffiti and Murals it doesn't see appeal to the eye having this cluster of graffiti in every wall of a abandon antique building.

At least I saw I lot of people working to maintain the Paseo de Diego clean.

Now this was a part of Rio Piedras that is blooming in color!

I hope that colorful vibe brings Rio Piedras alive again. I saw a new hotel call Nest Hotel and the building in front was in remodel and this is just beside the Tren Urbano and in front of the Public Plaza.

My hope is that people start taking care or buying these old buildings that almost look like Old San Juan structures the architecture of some of these buildings are breathtaking.

Plaza del Mercado, Rio Piedras

I was happy to see Plaza del Mercado it's a Marketplace where people buy fruits and other things. I saw people there buying and that give me hope that this is not going to closed for now.

I saw a Puerto Rico shop and a Republic Dominican shop so rare to see it but love it!
